Britain’s Oldest Shop Keeper?
January 21, 2009 by kevin
Jack Yaffe, 100 has been running his store for 75 years, he opened for business in 1934 and still makes the decisions.
When Mr Yaffe first opened the doors to his business, Bonnie and Clyde had just been killed, Alcatraz was just built, Hitler became fuhrer of Germany, Henry Cooper, Georgio Armani and Sophia Loren, were BORN!
And for all the time the shop has been open, Jack has lived above the store in Prestwich, Manchester.
He has outlived Woolworth’s and when he was born in 1909, the recently-closed chain had just opened its first store. The reason behind his success?
“We buy right and sell right and I still direct the business.”
We bet many high street stores wish they had the same fight in them..
