Jonathon Ross is back. Perhaps the most over-rated scandal ever to grace the pages of Fleet Street’s finest is now in the past and Ross is back where he is most at ease, interviewing mega-stars and making them laugh.
The BBC host immediately kicked off with references to Sachs Scandal.
He smiled: “So, where were we? Welcome to Friday Night with Jonathan Ross. You’re surprised?”
He told how George Bush once said: “I believe human beings and fish can co-exist peacefully.”
And he added: “What sort of idiot would say stuff like that knowing it was going to be broadcast?”
He said: “On that subject, there can’t be many viewers who aren’t aware this show hasn’t been on recently and the reason for its absence.
“I’m going to take this opportunity to apologise for what I said on the radio because being on the BBC and allowed this level of freedom to communicate with people is a great privilege.
“It’s something I’ve always enjoyed and I value enormously.
“In future I do intend to be more aware of the responsibility that comes with such a gift. But as the kids say, it was my bad, so I do apologise for any hurt or distress it has caused.”
Then the grin reappeared as he turned to his camp band, Four Poofs and a Piano, saying: “On the subject of cock ups…” Then he smiled: “It’s going to be a gradual change.”
On Twitter, on return to his Mac, @wossy said “Hello. That was a fun day and nice to be back. All the guests were so lovely, and funny. Twitter discussed – Tom might sign up !”
@StephenFry said on the same site:”Show is recording earlier than usual to suit: a) Me, b) Lee Evans or c) Tom Cruise? Answers on a tweetcard.” and after the show said: “All over. Won’t reveal too much as press seem anxious to be all over this. JR & I discussed Twitter. Hope it makes the cut. Cruise charming”
