Forget Peter And Jane – Teach ‘Em Twitter and Blogs

Twitter, Blogging and Wikipedia to be taught at schools in the UK

The British government is proposing that Twitter is to be taught in primary schools.

The plans have been drawn up by Sir Jim Rose, the former Ofsted chief who was appointed by ministers to overhaul the primary school curriculum.

One of the proposals on the Guardian article said:

Children to leave primary school familiar with blogging, podcasts, Wikipedia and Twitter as sources of information and forms of communication. They must gain “fluency” in handwriting and keyboard skills, and learn how to use a spellchecker alongside how to spell.

A comment by “Devolute” on the excellent Mike Butcher’s Techcrunch UK summed it up:-

So just to re-cap:

Important: Twitter.

Not important: World War 2

So making lists of the top ten famous people on twitter to be stuck in a lift with may get an 11plus one day?
