The build up to tomorrow night’s fight between Ricky Hatton and Manny Pacquiao for the junior welterweight title has been somewhat subdued when you compare Hatton’s recent comments to his verbal barbs with Floyd Mayweather Jr., in his last title bout.
But while Hatton and Pacquiao seem to have a mutual respect for each other, their trainers, Freddie Roach and Floyd Mayweather Sr., have been far from friends. The two trainers have been doing most of the talking all week, with Roach, Pacquiao’s trainer, adding more fuel to the already flaming fire by claiming that he could do a better job with Ricky Hatton.
“I believe so,” Roach said. “I’m not saying I’m better than Floyd, but I think that my style and Ricky’s style would mesh better together. People say there’s a rivalry between me and Floyd, but there’s not. But I see what he does on [the HBO promotional documentary] 24/7. I see that he’s late for training every day. I think he thinks that he’s the show., and he doesn’t care about the fighter.”
The two will get the chance to prove who the better cornerman is on Saturday when Pacquiao and Hatton take to the ring for their highly anticipated fight.
