Gordon Ramsey Says Sorry… Because His Mum Tells Him To
June 10, 2009 by Mark Glenning

Gordon Ramsey has apologised to Australian TV host Tracy Grimshaw after receiving a rollocking from his mother.
The sweary TV chef caused a storm down under after appearing on Grimshaw’s show last Friday.
Appearing at a food fair in Melbourne the following day, he likened her to a picture of a naked woman with a pig’s face on all fours. It was also alleged that he made several sexist remarks. His comments attracted the ire of Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, who said the remarks “reflected a new form of low life”. Grimshaw herself hit back, calling Ramsey “a bully”.
Ramsey, who is famous for the ‘hair dryer’ treatment he dispenses on his shows, was initially keen to make amends.
He first tried to apologise on Saturday – TV station Channel Nine confirmed he had contacted the producers of Grimshaw’s show, A Current Affair, but the miffed host refused to take his call. He said: “I made a strong attempt to contact her and I suppose like any petulant teenager when you get ignored, the whole thing escalated. I kept jibbing away at her”
It resulted in the foul-mouthed star getting a taste of his own medicine in a telephone call from his mother. “She was disgusted and she wanted to know what actually happened,” Ramsay said. “When your mum rings you and starts giving you a bollocking down the telephone then of course you start to get the picture. If any of you guys had called my wife a pig and it was in front of me, I’d punch your lights out.”
The repentant chef eventually apologised: “Tracy, where do I start? First of all, you’ve shown me great respect and amazing support over the last three or four years and I’d just like to take this opportunity to apologise for the stupid comments and am deeply mortified that the whole thing has gone this far.”
However, he defended himself from allegations that he commented on her sexuality: “I never called Tracy a lesbian so when the Prime Minister refers to me as calling her a lesbian pig it’s factually incorrect,”
“The Prime Minister jumping on the bandwagon is somewhat unfortunate. A very prominent, powerful man running the country – but not correct in terms of what he said.”
However, it seems that some parts of the Australian media aren’t happy to let the matter rest. The Herald Sun contacted London chef Marco Pierre White, who told them it was all part of an act. “He thinks by shocking people that he attracts attention on himself, so in many ways he’s got everything he wants,” he added.
“He looks like a cross between Patrick Swayze and a ventriloquist’s dummy. If you took away the rudeness and the outlandish comments, what’s left? Very little.” Chef Marcus Wareing played the incident down, however. He said: “He doesn’t dwell on people’s thoughts about him, he doesn’t dwell on the past, you can’t take that away from him.”
“He’ll get on that plane, leave the aftermath of destruction behind, then go on to the next thing.”
Tip of the @#$*! chef’s hat to the Herald Sun
