Man(iac) Jumps Over Tower Bridge On Motorbike

July 13, 2009 by Simon Tingle

A motorcross star has attempted to jump over a half raised Tower Bridge as part of a terrifying stunt.

The appropriately named Robbie Maddison, a 27-year-old motorcross rider, successfully performed the stunt on the famous London landmark this morning.

The Australian daredevil used both sides of the half raised bridge as a take-off and landing ramp for his unique stunt.

Mr Maddison said: “People say I’m crazy, but I just want to push the boundaries of my sport and my body to the limit and I love taking on these huge challenges.

Maddison not only landed the jump successfully but also managed a no-handed backflip while in mid-air.

“The whole experience was awesome. We had a matter of minutes on the bridge and had to time everything to the second – there were so many factors to get right, but we pulled it off.

“It was an incredible feeling to fly between the two towers and over the Thames,” he added.

The impressive or perhaps stupid stunt, depending on which way you look at it, is not the first for Maddison.

He has also jumped on to a life-size replica of the Arc de Triomphe in Las Vegas and holds the record for the longest ever motorbike jump, at 350.7ft.

Who knows what he’ll try next?
