Aston Villa are believed to have agreed a fee in the region of £12m for Middlesbrough winger Stewart Downing.
The 24-year-old has made more than 200 appearances for his home-town club since making his debut in 2002.
But his future at the Riverside has been the subject of much speculation following Boro’s relegation to the Championship.
Downing is currently recovering from a foot injury, which is likely to keep him sidelined until at least October.
The winger, who has 23 caps for England, signed a new five-year deal in February 2008, but had a written transfer request rejected in January.
However, Boro chairman Steve Gibson promised that he could leave the Riverside if a big club came in offering the right price.
Hat-tip to the BBC.
