A Licence To Drive James Bond’s Lotus Esprit

Lotus Esprit Turbo (Red)

For Your Eyes Only’s Lotus Esprit sells for £105,000

Originally belong to Colin Chapman, the red Lotus Esprit used by Roger Moore’s James Bond in the film The Spy Who Loved Me has sold at the Blenhiem Palace Car Auction.

While not the version that turned into a submarine (that was White, and in the previous film the Spy Who Loved Me), two Esprit’s were provided for the John Glenn directed 1981 film. One had it’s anti-theft system triggered by a tramp (it exploded) and the other survived.

The winning bidder was by telephone, so no word on their real name, but we’re secretly hoping it was Daniel Craig, buying up all the classy memorabilia he can! After all, he only got an Aston Martin in his outing as Bond!

Thanks not to Q, but the BBC.
