Oasis’ ‘Live Forever’ Voted Best Song Ever | The Daily Dust delivering the best bric a brac, daily news and events with a British flavour

They may have split up but Oasis continue to make the headlines.

Live Forever, the third single from the bands debut album Definitely Maybe, has been named the best song ever.

Radio station Xfm teamed up with other stations from around the globe to conduct the poll aimed at finding the world’s best song.

It seems the Manchester band were clear favourites with three of their songs in the top four. Singles Don’t Look Back In Anger and Wonderwall came third and fourth in the poll respectively.

The news is in stark contrast to earlier this week when we reported Noel Gallagher had officially left the band after a bust up with his brother Liam. Click here to read the full article.

The Mancunian domination of the poll didn’t stop there, with Joy Division, The Stones Roses and The Smiths all featuring in the top 10.

The poll was also a success for British music as a whole, with 71 of the top 100 songs coming from UK acts.

The Top 10 was as follows:

1. Live Forever – Oasis

2. Mr Brightside – The Killers

3. Don’t Look Back In Anger – Oasis

4. Wonderwall – Oasis

5. Love Will Tear Us Apart – Joy Division

6. I Am The Resurrection – The Stone Roses

7. Smells Like Teen Spirit – Nirvana

8. There Is A Light That Never Goes Out – The Smiths

9. Bitter Sweet Symphony – Verve

10. Plug In Baby – Muse

What do you think of the choices? Are they dominated by modern music? Has there been a glaring omission? Leave your comment below.
