Giffgaff launches people powered mobile phone network

New British mobile network hopes for user support from the users

Got a phone that’s not being used? Then why not consider picking up a SIM card and resurrecting it with Giffgaff – the new mobile network that went public today.

Deriving it’s name from the Scottish phrase “You give me something, I give you something back” the idea is simple. You can just pay your monthly mobile bills when you join the service (it goes live in December) or you can help out with support, you can build tutorials on line and these all earn credits.

Earn enough and your monthly bill is paid for you.

As well as the basic support issues, users of Giffgaff can help decide on new areas for the company to investigate and help decide the direction.

Mike Fairman is the “gaffer” for Giffgaff and he writes:

We’re hoping to start a bit of a revolution in our industry – that’s because we believe in the power of collaboration to give you a great service at a great price. Because we’ll keep things simple we’ll have low running costs and you won’t see us spending millions on glossy TV ads either. And the real difference is that if you’re prepared to help us out a bit you’ll get something back from us as a thank you.
