We’ll take up BoJo’s Charity Euro Bet about Tony Blair.
Writing in his guest column for the Daily Telegraph, London Mayor Boris Johnson (and arguably the second most powerful Conservative in the UK) is casting his eye over all the fun of Europe and the ongoing treaty and has landed on Tony Blair.
You see many people feel that if the Lisbon Treaty is ratified and put into action, the first action will be to appoint a “President of Europe” and the leading contender is a certain Anthony Charles Lynton Blair.
Johnson is not so sure…
Can you really imagine Nicolas Sarkozy being willing to share the international limelight with our Tony, when Blair is British, charismatic, and not remotely frightened of appearing in photocalls with people of more than five foot five inches in height?
No, I will wager a fiver with any reader – proceeds to charity – that Blair will not be chosen as Europe’s president, if and when the Treaty of Lisbon proceeds.
Boris, we here at The Daily Dust will take you up on that bet – not because we think it will happen because we just love to see any politician be happy to back up their opinion with their own wallet.
And we’ll nominate The Royal British Legion as our charity.
