Wood gets the chop as Strictly gets serious

Jo Wood became the sixth celebrity to be voted off Strictly Come Dancing earlier tonight.
The former wife to rock star Ronnie Wood and dancer Brendan Cole lost out to athlete Jade Johnson and her professional partner Ian Waite in the dance-off.
Wood, who has been struggling throughout the series, only scored 14 points for her Samba dance to leave her bottom of the leaderboard.
This time Wood’s public support via the phonelines was not enough to keep her in the competition.
This week the eleven remaining celebrity couples danced either an American Smooth or a Samba.
All the judges agreed to save Johnson with Bruno Tonioli claiming ‘it was not a difficult decision.’
It was surprising Johnson ended in the dance-off given the fact her Samba scored 32 points from the judges – leaving the athlete in joint third place.
After the result was announced, Wood said: “I’m surprised I have lasted this long but I have enjoyed every second of it. He (Brendan) has been absolutely brilliant. He’s fantastic.”
The dance of the night came from actress Ali Bastian and her partner Brian Fortuna who scored 37 out of 40 for their classy American Smooth performance.
Bastian’s score is the highest so far in this year’s competition and she received the second ‘ten’ of the series from Bruno Tonioli.
Fellow judge Craig Revel Horwood described her American Smooth as ‘classy, stylish and absolutely stunning.’
Just ten couples are now left in the competition as we approach the halfway stage. There was a sense tonight the judges were getting much tougher with their scoring after now six weeks in the series.
Johnson is joined by actresses Ali Bastian, Natalie Cassidy, Zoe Lucker and Laila Rouass, former cricketer Phil Tufnell, Coronation Street star Craig Kelly, BBC Sports presenter Chris Hollins and actors Ricky Whittle and Ricky Groves from Hollyoaks and Eastenders respectively.
