Shock result in Strictly as actress Lucker is voted out
November 1, 2009 by Nigel Slater
Zoe Lucker surprisingly became the latest celebrity to be voted off Strictly Come Dancing.
In a shocking result, which left the judges stunned, the Footballer Wives star lost out to fellow actress Ali Bastian in the dance-off.
It was a major surprise to see both celebrities in the bottom two after looking strong contenders to reach the later stages of the competition.
What added more to the shock was that both couples received scores of over 30 points for their dances on the night.
Each celebrity couple had been set a different dance to perform for last nights show. Lucker and her partner James Jordan scored 32 points for their Samba and Bastian and Brian Fortuna collected 33 points for their Paso Doble.
In fact Ali and Zoe were placed third and fifth on the leader board respectively for the dancing part of the show. But despite their good scores, their performances unfortunately failed to win over the viewing public.
Before casting the crucial vote, head judge Len Goodman described the situation as ‘ludicrous’.
Goodman fumed: “I’m sorry and I know the public can do whatever they want but this is ludicrous and nonsensical. There are five couples who are worse than these two couples. It’s just not right.”
It was not the first time Goodman vented his anger on the show.
After Eastenders star Ricky Groves performed a Rumba with his professional partner Erin Boag, Goodman fumed at fellow judges Craig Revel Horwood and Bruno Tonioli for their criticism of the actor’s routine.
The dance of the night fell to Holloaks actor Ricky Whittle and his partner Natalie Lowe for their ’amazing’ Quickstep dance, which earned the pair a massive 39 out of 40 – the highest score of the series so far.
Just nine celebrities are now left in this year’s series.
Whittle joins fellow actors Ricky Groves and Craig Kelly, actresses Natalie Cassidy, Laila Rouass and Ali Bastian.
Also still competing in the contest are athlete Jade Johnson, former cricketer Phil Tufnell and BBC Sports presenter Chris Hollins.
Next week’s show comes live from the Blackpool Tower – the acclaimed home for ballroom dancing. The show will also include a live performance from singer Rod Stewart.
Catch all the action next Saturday on BBC1 at 6.25pm.
