Alastair Cook Not On Cape Town Flight For Friday’s ODI
November 23, 2009 by Alex Homer

Alastair Cook looks set to miss the remainder of the One Day International series with South Africa after the decision he will not fly with the rest of the squad to Cape Town.
The Essex opener is suffering from a bulging disk in his lower back and England’s priority is to ensure his fitness for the Test series.
Cook will remain with the Performance Squad while, with batting cover in the form of Joe Denly, there is no urgency to fly out a replacement.
Jacques Kallis will also miss the remainder of the ODI series with a fractured rib which only showed up in a scan last Saturday.
It is thought the all-rounder sustained the injury during the CLT20 Champions League. Herschelle Gibbs has been re-called to strengthen the Proteas batting.
England lead the series 1-0 after a Johannesburg washout and Paul Collingwood’s fifth ODI century on Sunday at Centurion saw England home in the second match.
