John and Edward Grimes’ rollercoaster ride on this year’s The X Factor came to a halt last night as they were voted off by the judges.
The twins lost out to Olly Murs in the sing-off after they both found themselves in the bottom two.
Over the past eight weeks, the Dublin twins have received much criticism over their bad singing – but have been praised and won huge fans for their entertaining performances and likeable personalities.
It was a massive surprise to see Olly in the bottom two after proving to a big favourite with the bookies and the girls.
The twins known as ‘Jedward’ sang Boyzone’s ‘No Matter What’ in the sing-off, but facing against such a strong opponent in Olly proved too much for them.
Judges Simon Cowell, Cheryl Cole and Dannii Minogue opted to save Olly after his survival performance of Eric Clapton’s ‘You Look Wonderful Tonight’.
After the result was announced, John told presenter Dermot O’Leary: “It’s been kind of crazy, but Olly deserves to go through. I hope he and Stacey Soloman go all the way.
“We’ve been here week after week – singing live on TV, It has been amazing.”
Brother Edward added: “It’s like deadly – probably the coolest place in the world to be.”
John and Edward’s mentor and fellow judge Louis Walsh was proud of his boys. He said: “I’ve had the best time working with them. They have made me feel young again.
“All the fun has gone from The X Factor now they’ve gone.”
While making his decision to save Olly, judge Simon Cowell told the twins: “I am actually going to miss you. I am.”
It is expected the twins will go on to make very successful careers in the entertainment scene.
Just five acts now remain in the competition – Danyl Johnson, Stacey Soloman, Joe McElderry, Lloyd Daniels and Olly Murs.
For the remainder of the competition the public will now decide who stays and who goes. The judges no longer will have to make a decision.
It should make for a very exciting finale.
