When is a Circle not a Circle?

London Underground changes Circle Line to a Tadpole.

For those of you who used to sit on the Circle Line and revise for your exams, grabbing a coffee every time you past Victoria (I’m looking at you Gyles Brandreth!), those times are long gone.

The Circle Line is no longer a circle.

Trains will now stop at Edgeware road and you’ll be forced to get on another train if you want to continue your clockwise adventure. But rather than starting the trains at Edgeware Road, the Circle Line (it keeps the traditional name, so watch out for that in Trivial Pursuit 2099) will start at Hammersmith, trundle up the old Hammersmith and City Line and join the circle at the north of Paddington.

The new line has one advantage – it will be easier to take broken trains out of the system and cause less disruption. I suppose London commuters should be thankful that the Underground is now planning for the expected failures rather than aim for success
