Former Chelsea manager Avram Grant has been announced as the new manager of Premier League strugglers Portsmouth.
The news comes after previous manager Paul Hart had been relieved of his duties on Tuesday due to the side’s poor run of defeats.
Grant, 54, was already working at Fratton Park for a second spell as the club’s Director of Football.
Portsmouth chief-executive Peter Storrie said: “He (Grant) knows the club, players and set-up so it was logical to make him manager.
“Avram is a very experienced and respective manager who has managed at the highest level.
“The board believes he is the man to help steer the club out of the relegation zone.”
Grant’s first job will be to quickly turn around the club’s fortunes, which have seen Pompey win just two games in the league so far this season.
Portsmouth currently lie bottom of the table with just seven points from thirteen league games and are four points off safety.
Grant replaced Jose Mourinho as Chelsea boss in September 2007 and steered the team to second place in the Premier League and lost out on penalties to Manchester United in the European Cup final.
However, these achievements were not enough to keep him in the job and was replaced by Luiz Felipe Scolari in the summer of 2008.
