Natalie Cassidy has become the latest celebrity to be voted off BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing.

The actress, famously known for playing Sonia Fowler in Eastenders, lost out to red-hot favourite Ricky Whittle in the dance-off.

All the four judges decided to save the Hollyoaks star after Cassidy and her partner Vincent Simone were left at the bottom of the leaderboard for their much criticised performance.

Whittle will be grateful to the judges for backing him after having a difficult week following his arrest by police on Friday.

Coincidentally, host Bruce Forsyth joked to the actor and the audience after his Rock and Roll dance “You’ve had a bit less rehearsal time than you thought you’d have” – which brought a few heckles from the stage.

The remaining couples had to dance either a Charleston or a Rock and Roll dance – not danced before in Strictly Come Dancing history.

And another ‘Strictly first’ came by when all the couples performed a ‘competitive’ Vienese Waltz all at the same time.

Actress Ali Bastian and her professional partner Brian Fortuna found themselves top of the leaderboard after their two dances.

The Bill star is joined in next weeks quarter-finals by BBC Sports presenter Chris Hollins, actress Laila Rouass and Ricky Whittle.
