Arlene Phillips is reportedly being lined up by BBC bosses to make a swift return to Strictly Come Dancing.

Current judge Craig Revel Horwood made the suggestion to the Sunday Mirror newspaper and also hinted that her sacking was done intentionally to glue viewers to the programme.

Horwood believes bosses are now plotting a return for Arlene after speculation has mounted that Alesha Dixon will quit the show in order to concentrate on her music career and aim to make it big in America.

Singer Dixon replaced Arlene as a judge for this series of the popular dancing contest, sparking a huge ageism row.

Horwood said: “I think Arlene is more than capable of coming back. She’s coming on the live tour and it’s not as is she is not liked.

“I would love to have her back and I’ve missed her.”

Phillips will join Nigel Lythgoe in a new dancing show called ‘So You Think You Can Dance?’, which will air on BBC One in the new year.

Horwood added: “Who knows whether or not her sacking was a ploy so she could do the other dance show. It’s all up for question. It’s possible it is a conspiracy. Has anyone thought of that?”
