League Two side Notts County have made headlines all season and Thursday was no exception as the club’s owner Munto Finance put the club up for sale.
Munto is understood to be in talks with interested parties but one possibility mooted is for director of football Sven-Goran Eriksson (pictured with a fan) and executive chairman Peter Trembling to buy-out.
Munto bought the club in July with public ambitions to turn the Magpies into a Championship side within five years – emphasised by Sol Campbell’s high profile deal.
If Eriksson and Trembling cannot pull off the buyout – rumoured to cost £2-3million – their positions at Meadow Lane would be in doubt.
Despite unwanted turmoil – from Campbell’s Meadow Lane departure after one appearance, Hans Backe replacing Ian McParland as manager after two months, and a winding up petition issued by the High Court in November regarding a six-figure debt accrued before the Munto consortium’s purchase of the club- Notts remain strong promotion contenders in fourth on 34 points.
