Fidel Castro loses “Beard of the Noughties” to Michael “Glasto” Eavis.

Organiser and one man driving force behind the Glastonbury Music Festival Michael Eavis has taken the award for “Beard of the Noughties” from Cuban leader Fidel Castro.

Decided on by 200 members of the Beard Liberation Front (the BLF), and after heated debate, the trophy went to the musical farmer by a whisker.

“The support was split between Eavis and Castro. The other three were just also rans,” said organiser Keith Fleet. “Castro is difficult to get hold of but I’m sure the news will filter through one way or another.”

Eavis inherits the title from last year’s joint winners, Tom Jones and the Archbishop of Canterbury.
