Champagne and lap-dancing clubs are helping Britain fight its way out of recession, the Sun reported.
The number of punters at topless dance bars is back to pre-crunch levels, with female guests making an increasing impact on figures, according to a top London operator.
The return of City bankers has helped boost numbers at the Secrets chain, with women making up a fifth of punters at its Covent Garden venue.
Chief Stephen Less said numbers were back up. “City boys are returning and we see more ladies than ever. Younger people have a different attitude to sexiness and fun than ten years ago,” he said.
Meanwhile, Tesco saw a 45 per cent rise in champagne sales, with 500,000 more bottles of bubbly sold this month than last December.
The company said Birmingham was the UK champagne capital – ahead of Manchester and Kensington in West London.
Tesco wine manager Andrew Carpenter said: “People are putting the recession behind them.”
The news is a welcome confirmation of projections of a far stronger Christmas than originally expected.
