Coronation Street actor Craig Gazey has confirmed he has signed a new contract with the icon British soap.
The new deal means his popular character Graeme Proctor will stay on the streets of Weatherfield until at least March 2011.
His recent funny storylines have made him a much loved figure in the eyes of the show’s viewers.
The 27-year-old, who plays the Street’s butcher, gardener and window cleaner, was delighted to stay on at the soap, where it is expected his character will be involved in a big storyline and eventually find a girlfriend.
Gazey told entertainment website Digital Spy: “I’ve just signed another year’s contract, so I am definitely here now until at least March 2011.
“We were discussing options for Graeme to get a family but the main thing for me was how much Graeme was unrequited over his time on the Street. I basically pleaded with them that someone has to love him eventually.
“It’d seem that a lot of the viewers have a fondness to Graeme, so it would make sense for someone to see that on the Street. We have to change the dynamics of Graeme now.”
Craig’s role on the soap has seen him get nominated for the ‘best newcomer’ gong at the upcoming National Television Awards.
