End of an era: Keith Richards kicks the bottle

Legendary Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards has given up alcohol, it has been reported.

The 66-year-old musician finally quit after a combination of doctor’s orders and watching the plight of fellow Stone Ronnie Wood.  Richards has reportedly not touched a drop in four months.

A defiant Richards once famously claimed that he would never stop drinking because he had outlived several of the doctors who spent years telling him to do so.

But he suffered a brain haemorrhage four years ago after falling out of a tree while on a boozy trip to Fiji with Wood.

A source close to Richards told The Sun: “He has always quite enjoyed the fact that he seemed to be able to carry on drinking as much as he liked with no real negative impact on his health.

“But he has watched Ronnie fall well and truly off the wagon last year and he doesn’t like what he sees. Plus he has started to feel for the first time like it might do him some good to give up the booze for a while.”

Nevertheless, here is one wild man of rock-and-roll who still makes the Gallagher boys look tame.
