Simon Cowell’s charity single for victims of the Haiti earthquake is expected to sell over a million copies – according to an HMV insider.
The single, a cover of REM’s 1992 smash hit ’Everybody Hurts’ was recorded two weeks ago by various worldwide artists, including the likes of Cheryl Cole, Coldplay, Rod Stewart, Mariah Carey, Michael Buble, Robbie Williams, Kylie Minogue and Susan Boyle.
It is due for global release on Monday February 8 and massive sales are expected.
HMV spokesman Gennaro Castaldo said: “We’re getting record levels of pre-orders for ‘Everybody Hurts’.
“It is well on course to become a million seller, easily the biggest single for a decade. This single will dominate the charts in the weeks ahead as the biggest release of the past ten years.”
Profits from the charity single will be equally divided betweeen the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) and ’The Sun’s’ Helping Haiti appeal.
