A 101-year-old Chinese grandmother has shocked family members after sprouting a horn from her forehead.
Zhang Ruifang, of Linlou Village in China’s Henan Province, first noticed the bizarre growth in 2009 after a patch of rough skin appeared on the left side of her forehead.
More recently, a similar rough patch has appeared on her right side, suggesting a matching horn could be on the way.
Her son, 60-year-old Zhang Guozheng, said that when the horn first appeared they “didn’t pay too much attention to it”.
“But as time went on a horn grew out of her head and it is now six centimetres long,” he said.
Experts think the growth is a ‘cutaneous horn‘, a tumour made up of keratin – the substance that composes finger nails – which occur most commonly in elderly people.
Cutaneous horns are usually very small although larger ones of up to several inches have been recorded in the past.
Zhang Ruifang’s family is said to be worried about the condition, especially with the appearance of the second horn.
