The Libertines join headliners Guns N Roses, Arcade Fire and Blink 182
This summer’s festival jigsaw took a step closer to being completed last night, with the first set of bands confirmed for the August Bank Holiday holiday weekend shindigs in Reading and Leeds being announced.
BBC Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe was first to break the news that this year’s event would be headlined by Guns N Roses, Arcade Fire and Blink 182, but arguably the biggest story is the fact that The Libertines will also be reforming to play.
The Pete Doherty-fronted band will act as direct support to Arcade Fire on Saturday in Reading and Friday in Leeds. Other mainstage bands on that day include The Gaslight Anthem, Dizzee Rascal and the Cribs, while the second stage features Frank Turner, Enter Shikari and a headline slot from Pendulum.
Guns N Roses will round off Friday’s proceedings in Reading and Sunday in Leeds with direct support coming from stoner supergroup Queens of the Stone Age. The main stage will also feature slots from the Lostprophets, NOFX, Billy Talent and Biffy Clyro. LCD Soundsystem will headline that day’s second stage with other notable bands including Delphic and Mumford & Sons.
Pop-punk legends Blink 182 play Leeds on Saturday before rounding off the weekend in Reading, with direct support coming from Paramore. Below them on the main stage are Weezer, Cypress Hill, Limp Bizkit, You Me At Six and All Time Low, while the second stage features performances from Kele (Bloc Party’s frontman), We Are Scientists and a headline slot from The Klaxons.
