Apple has revealed the features that will appear on their next update for the iPhone.
Apple has said that the OS 4.0 update, released later this year, will include over 100 new features.
One of the most anticipated new features looks set to be a multi-tasking tool, which will allow users to run more than one program at a time.
This would potentially allow an iPhone user to listen to music while also reading news or sorting out their emails.
Although the multi-task feature is already included on other smartphones, Apple founder Steve Jobs said:
“We weren’t the first to this party but we’re going to be the best.”
Another of the hotly anticipated features is iAd, a mobile advertising platform that will place adverts in applications made by third parties.
Apple is planning on giving external developers a 60% slice of the revenue from the iAd application.
Some of the other update features will include an option to create specific folders to store third party applications downloaded from iTunes, enhanced mail and iBooks.
The iPhone OS 4.0 update will be hitting the iPhone and iPod touch first, and then the iPad, later this year.
