Television star Graham Norton will replace Jonathan Ross as Saturday morning host on BBC Radio 2, it has been confirmed.

The Over The Rainbow presenter will take over from Ross later this year starting from October 2 and his new show will feature live music and celebrity interviews.

A delighted Norton said: “I’m thrilled to be a part of it. My liver is also delighted that I’ll now have an excuse to leave the pub early on a Friday night.”

Radio 2 controller Bob Shennan said: “Graham is one of the nation’s favourite entertainment presenters and I’m hugely excited to welcome him to his new permanent home on Radio 2.”

Shennan also paid tribute to Ross for his great work on the station. He said: “I’d like to thank Jonathan for making the Saturday morning slot on Radio 2 such a success over the past eleven years and, during that time, contributing fully to the renaissance of Radio 2.”

The news comes after Jonathan Ross announced in January he was leaving the BBC after 13 years working with them.
