Arsenal winger Theo Walcott is the surprise cut from Fabio Capello’s final 23 man World Cup squad.

Walcott, 21, who was the surprise inclusion in the last World Cup squad of 2006 has failed to impress Capello in two friendlies against Mexico and Japan.

Also set to miss the cut are Scott Parker, Leighton Baines, Adam Johnson, Darren Bent and Tottenham duo Michael Dawson and Tom Huddlestone.

Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry has been passed fit to play but will likely sit out the opening game against USA on June 12.

Sunderland striker Darren Bent, who has netted 25 times for Sunderland this season, responded by saying: “Am gutted. But thank you for all your support this season.”
