Rocking all the way home.

Joe Bonamassa @ Birmingham NIA Academy, 31-05-10

Joe Bonamassa is one hot name in the world of modern blues guitar; he’s recently gone from having a cult following to being recognised as the genre’s next big thing, so it’s no surprise to see 4,000 people packed into the downsized NIA for his visit to Birmingham.

Taking the stage armed with the most gorgeous doubled-necked red guitar, it’s clear from the off that a Bonamassa live performance is one for all guitar fans. He takes in slow blues, fast blues, touches of hard rock, flashes of flamenco and even sloshes of good old boogie, which keeps everyone interested. he also commands the stage the style and has no problem keeping the room hooked in hushed amazement at his playing.

This is no truer than when this less-than-ordinary Joe takes the stage solo with just an acoustic guitar and proceeds to give the most astounding, technical display of the most skillful playing you are ever likely to see. Quite simply, he has stunning ability over six strings, and if you have the slightest interest in rock guitar, you should try and check him out. What a performance!
